  Alternatively, some students go for a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D), which is about 5-6 years.

If you’ve studied outside of Australia, though, you’ll need to take the OPRA exam before you’re allowed to practice there. More on that below.

United States of America

Here’s how it plays out in the USA:

• 2 to 4 years of undergrad/pre-pharmacy

• Pharm. D: 4 years
  

  So, 6 to 8 years total, depending on how quickly you finish your pre-pharmacy coursework.

United Kingdom

In the UK, it’s a bit more streamlined:

• MPharm (Master of Pharmacy): 4 years

• Pre-registration training: 1 year

India

In India, things work differently. There are a few paths:

• B.Pharm (Bachelor’s): 4 years

OPRA is the short form of the term “Overseas Pharmacist Registration Assessment”. Pharmacists across the globe who want to work in Australia have to mandatorily qualify for this exam to get a full-time job there.
